Mental health is an essential aspect of our overall well-being. Our mental health affects how we think, feel, and act, and it can impact every aspect of our lives, including our relationships, work, and physical health. The good news is that mental health is something that we can improve with simple habits and lifestyle changes.

In this blog post, I will discuss my 7 proven best habits that use to improve my mental health and keep it in check:

Exercising regularly

Exercise has been shown to have numerous benefits for mental health, including reducing stress, improving mood, and reducing the risk of depression and anxiety. I usually aim for at least 30 minutes a day, ok well some days it harder than others but most days I commit to 30 minutes of fast walking outside or treadmill or running, and combine light weight lifting on most days of the week.

Getting enough sleep

Sleep plays a critical role in our mental and physical health. I make sure to aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night and establish a consistent sleep schedule to help regulate my body’s natural sleep-wake cycle.

Eating a healthy diet

A healthy diet that is rich in nutrients and low in processed foods can have a positive impact on our mental health. I make sure to incorporate more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein into my food and believe me it does help with my mood! Have you ever tried eating a greasy burger late at night to only wake up grumpy and heavy the next day?? Plus it does help to reduce inflammation, and reduce the risk of depression and anxiety.

Practicing mindfulness

Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment without judgment. It can help reduce stress, improve mood, and increase feelings of well-being. I make sure to take a few moments each day, outside of my busy work and mom’s life to be mindful and grateful! There are many ways to practice mindfulness, including yoga, breathing exercises, and meditation, that you can easily find on Youtube for free 🙂

Taking time for yourself to sit in silence and feel positivity around you, is a great way to recharge and reconnect with your true self.

Connecting with others

Strong social connections are essential for good mental health. I make sure to have some fun time with my friends and connections, by going to a restaurant once every other month with them or going for girl’s brunches on Sunday. I also do volunteering at my kids school, participating in community activities and make new friends, this helped me a lot to reduce my stress, improve my mood, and increase the feelings of purpose and fulfillment. I hear you busy moms, sometimes this can be daunting at first, but once you push yourself, you will feel the benefits immediately 🙂

Seeking support you need it
